I guess you could say we had a big city adventure. Not my favorite kind of adventure, but it happened like it or not! Everyone was busy. N was working like crazy, as usual during the holidays. Every friend I called was either sick or on their way out of town. So, I decided the kids and I were still going to have some fun and do something special. So, I bundled them and packed them up along with binoculars, golf clubs, and bread to feed the ducks and headed off to a park in a very nice neighborhood down the road. I parked right next to the playground and there were several other people there. A man pulled up next to me in a pickup truck and stared me down as I got the kids and gear in the stroller. He was eating a sandwich, but I couldn't help thinking he was "pretending to eat his lunch." Weird thought, I know, but that's what I kept thinking. B wanted to play on the playground, but I insisted on going down to feed the ducks first. It was cold, but we had a fabulous time. The ducks came quacking and swimming as fast as they could and the seagulls started swarming above. The boys were so excited. And E! She started laughing and clapping and yelling "Hi bird! Bird. Bird. Hi bird!" I didn't even know she could say bird! It was great. They splashed in puddles, looked at the ducks through the binoculars, and golfed in the soccer field. The boys got pretty wet splashing in the puddles and E was pretty cold too, so I thought it was about time to head back to the car. When we got back one of the windows on the minivan was smashed in and my purse that had been in the back under blankets and diaper bags had been stolen! So, there we were, soaking wet, freezing cold and glass all over the car and in the carseats. It was an hour before we were done with the police and N came from work to put the kids in his car so I could drive the minivan home. Luckily, we got our credit cards and bank accounts closed in time, but it appears that the guy has since written and cashed over $50,000 in checks. Fun, fun. Did I mention it was a really nice neighborhood, in broad daylight, with plenty of people around?
